new quilt

Apparently I only make blue and green and white quilts. This is a new one for a (relatively) new baby. The quilt top measures about 31" square. I planned, cut and pieced it all today in about 4 hours. I haven't figured out what I'll do for a back.Here are some more purses and wristlets:

fo: Julian's baby quilt

Pattern: Inspired by Stacked Coins Quilt, from Moda Bakeshop
Fabric: Scraps from stash, coins were 2.5" x 5"
Measurements: 28" x 31"
I made 3 strips of 12 coins each, then added 3.5" wide strips between stacks and on ends. For the backing I used another strip of 13 stacked coins between two large pieces of backing.

free-motion quilting

Today I finally started practicing free-motion quilting with my new free-motion darning foot, and began quilting Julian's baby quilt. I'm about halfway done. It's quite tiring on the back/arms but it's coming out looking ok! I hope I'll finish it tomorrow.I also sewed myself a laptop sleeve with some old fabric I found. I wasn't about to pay $40 for a new one. Who knows what I paid for this fabric but I'm guessing total cost for this thing (including the quilt batting) is well under $5. I also added some interfacing to a couple coin purses I made last summer to sturdy them up. They're much more functional now. And, I'm still working on my Ishbel #2. It's slow going. I really need to get a long circular size 6 BAMBOO needle. These stitches constantly slip off my needles . Like every row I'm picking up stitches. Grr.

Here's some new fabric I ordered from Sew Mama Sew. I think I'll use some of it for a new quilt.

purses galore

Lots of purse-making going on here.
It took me three tries to figure out how to get this strap sewn in the right place. Each time I sewed and ripped out. I didn't get smart and try safety pinning it first. Duh.
These little card holders were very quick and easy.

This purse, not so much. It pretty much took me all day, I think.
Still, I'm on a roll and can't stop now!

bird mobile

This is the bird mobile that I made for Eloise. I found a link for the bird pattern at one of the blogs I read, but I can't find it now. fo: first birthday dress

I whipped up this little dress for Eloise a few mornings ago. It's from Weekend Sewing, and though the book promised me I could make it in 1 hour, it took me more like 3 or 4. It came out quite large, but still looks cute on her, and this way she can wear it next summer, too!

mini quilt in progess

This is a baby quilt for friends of mine who had a son a month ago already. I based it on the stacked coins quilt by Crazy Mom Quilts, but it's much smaller. I used 12 coins instead of 22 in a column, and 3 columns instead of 5. There's a pieced backing, too. Right now it measure about 28 x 31 inches, so it's quite small! I used all scraps and cut it, pieced the top and back and basted it in less than 4 hours. I got stalled when it came to the quilting part, though, because I want to free-motion quilt it and don't have the proper foot. I tried to get it at Joann's but no luck, so I guess I'll have to order it online. I made my binding already so as soon as I get the foot, I can quilt it, bind it and send it off to baby Julian.

but I have only this lame picture to show for it. I have added buttons and blocked it, so hopefully I'll have a picture of it on someday soon. But honestly, as usual, I'm not too sure about this one. I think I should retire from knitting sweaters altogether.
